BAD NEWS FOR EVERYONE

8.06.2007

I don't need to get into a tirade about how the curtailment of freedom for some will eventually lead to the curtailment of freedom for everyone. Skip the patriotic music and waving flag. Most of us are willing to give up a little freedom for security, but if we give up too much, we'll be in much more danger than we ever were. If history has taught us anything it is that when you give a government permission to step on the rights of "certain" citizens in the midst of fear, it always goes too far.

Thanks to Bush, the United States government no longer needs a warrant to eavesdrop on your phone calls and e-mail messages that go outside of the country. Next, any e-mails or phone calls outside of your state? Any cell phone calls outside of your "5."

We need to protect ourselves from those within our midst who want to destroy us, but if we let our fear of them make us abandon what makes this country great, what are we protecting? We will defeat them because we are America, not in spite of it. Staying America is the only way we have a chance. Oh, and getting a better President wouldn't hurt either.
